Vegetable Starts
Joe’s Gardens is committed to growing and providing the healthiest selection of all natural vegetable plants and starts. We draw from over 80 years of experience in farming, to select varieties that will not only prosper in back yard gardens, but also provide exceptional flavor.
The seed is where it all begins
We use multiple types of seeds from different suppliers. We do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered or modified seeds or plants. We use open pollinated, hybrid and organic seeds. Less than one hundredths percent of our seeds (pumpkin and some squash varieties only) may have been treated with an anti fungal coating to protect them from rot and disease.
Pesticides
We do not apply any pesticides or herbicides to our vegetable plants.
Growth Retardants
We do not apply any growth retardants to our vegetable plants.
Fertilizers
We use Nature’s Source 10-4-3 plant food and Nature’s Source Probiotics on our vegetable plants. The main ingredient is non-GMO oilseed extract, a renewable source of plant nutrition. It is blended with additional nitrogen, phosphates, potash, ammonia and urea nutrients to create optimally balanced nutrition for plants.
Definitions
Open Pollination - Pollination by insects, birds, wind, or other natural mechanisms. The seeds of open-pollinated plants will produce new generations of those plants.
Hybrid - Hybrid pollination, a type of controlled pollination in which the pollen comes from a different strain (or species), can be used to increase crop suitability.
Organic - Organic seeds are seeds that have been produced entirely through organic practices by a certified organic operation. In order to be sold as such, they must be produced by such a facility, which has been certified by an accredited government agency.
Treated Seeds - Treated seed is seed that has been coated with a substance such as a fungicide or pesticide, to prevent disease or aid germination.
Joe's Grown Produce
For over 25 years, Joe's Gardens has produced the finest produce on our 7 acre farm by not using pesticides or herbicides (this includes not using Organic Approved pesticides or herbicides) on our fields. We believe that a healthy plant is a strong plant that can sustain itself against diseases and insects. A healthy, strong plant is developed with proper nutrition, monitored watering, and weeding the surrounding area by hand.
We have taken the nutritional element of farming beyond ordinary practices. Each spring season, we do individual soil testing on 14 different plot areas of our property. We amend our soil utilizing non-synthetic, element based fertilizers specific to the crop and plot.
We have bugs, we have pests, just like in your garden. But our customers understand that a few holes on our produce is a small price to pay for truly spray free produce.
